The NYC cold is at it's peak and with winter comes my trusty winter faves!
With temps in the single digits and real feels in the negatives I need every bit of hydration I can get. Even in this most drying winter, my combination skin makes it impossible for me to slab on thick moisturizer, so my go to every morning and night is: Shiseido's IBUKI Refining Moisturizer ($45). With my testy skin, this moisturizer makes my skin soft and hydrated with out that greasy feeling. It's been the most helpful part of my winter skin care routine.
My lips have been incredibly dry due to all this wind and a classic for morning and night is Vaseline's Lip Therapy ($1.79). The most inexpensive and helpful product to protect from those terrifyingly cold days
On a whim, I picked up GlamGlow's Supercleanse Daily Clearing Cleanser ($39) at Sephora and at the time, which was about two months ago, my skin was having a bad couple weeks. I don't think it lives up to the promise of creating a mattified appearance but it actually did help with my complexion quite a lot. I don't know the cause of my sudden breakouts but this was a life saver.
With shorter days and early classes, comes lazy Brenda. I have worn very little face makeup in the past couple months, partly due to my skin issues, and I've not worn mascara for over half a year now. To look awake and alive, I've been relying on my trusty eyelash curler. The Face Shop has an amazing and affordable eyelash curler that fits my eye shape perfectly. Eyelash curlers sold by Asian beauty brands typically have a less rounded shape which is perfect for my eyelashes.
Less face makeup means I have so much more time to work with lip products. Winter is the best time to experiment with your vampy shades. With the length of my hair and the weather, I pretty much put away all my glossy finishes. This is my excuse to splurge on all these amazing liquid-to-matte lipsticks coming out lately. Mattes I've been in love with include: Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in 'Lolita' ($20) which is not the "dusty rose" that it's described as, which I actually found I preferred. Lolita is much more on the brown/muddy side than the rose-y side. I originally wanted this shade because of someone on Instagram and it ended up looking completely different than what I saw in photos and I am pretty sure that Kat Von D/Sephora have changed the shade or formula. I would have loved to get the original Lolita but I really like the way this shade looks on me.
MAC's Lipstick in 'Smoked Purple' ($16) is an deep purple/eggplant with a matte finish. It's a great vampy shade that I think would look great on any skin tone. Smoked Purple has been one of my go to lip colors recently, it is a very wearable purple for those who may be tentative to trying vampy shades. I just love how this looks on and the only downside for me is that it's slightly drying but it is to be expected with matte finishes.
My favorite winter scent for years has been Bath and Body Works' Winter Candy Apple, whether it be the lotion or the body spray. The best form of the scent is definitely the candle, which I stock up on during the colder months. It's a very refreshing scent and I love it all year round.
