Matte lips had their time to shine, it’s about time that gloss makes a comeback! While I’m a unbiased lover of all lippies, I cannot resist a great lip gloss. Marc Jacobs Beauty has launched their Enamored Hydrating Lip Gloss Sticks (0.074 oz, $28USD). These are meant to be part shiny gloss, part tinted balm with lip care benefits. Influenster was kind enough to send me 2 of the 8 shades to test and review. The shades I got were Uh-Huh Honey and Candy Bling.
The gloss sticks are packaged in a bullet that looks like a lipgloss but is actually a pull off cap that reveals a typical twist up lipstick tube. The product is not retractable so you have to be careful of how much product you twist up. The tube clicks audibly as you twist and each click releases a very small amount of product.
The formula applies like a lipstick but melts on to your lips, which gives you the texture and finish of a high shine gloss. Both shades are on the subtle side as they are meant to be sheer, they can be layered for a bit more pigment or glitter depending on the shade. They are very comfortable to wear and they don't slip around after application. I find that these last on me similarly to most shiny, non-sticky glosses (around 3 hours). They have a light minty scent that is faint after application.
Uh-Huh Honey is described as “brown sugar shimmer”. There isn’t much color payoff but the glitter gives the lips a nice golden sheen. The glitter is not chunky or gritty. I like using this as a lip topper, it layers very nicely over lipsticks and tints. Candy Bling is described as a “red raspberry”. I was a bit intimidated because it’s not a shade I would normally go for but I was happily surprised, the color is muted and very wearable. Candy Bling isn’t nearly as shimmery as Uh-Huh Honey but is does have some glitter. Between the two, I prefer Candy Bling. I think it's a better option if you are looking for a shade that has color and glitter. As the gloss fades, the shimmer/glitter does stick around.
The Gloss Sticks are on the pricey side so it's definitely a splurge for those who have plenty of shiny lip balm products. They aren't a repurchase for me but they are a product worth looking into for those who like creamy gloss-like balms that also have glitter and a touch of color.
Perfect for you if you like gloss that is...
lightweight, hydrating, layers well over other lip products, not sticky
Think twice if you prioritize...
price, packaging (not retractable), lasting time, pigmentation
